WHY do you choose to or not to have sex?
This question was brought up in another thread, and I found myself interested. I dont' understand the other side of it, and I hate to be ignorant. Perhaps I will be enlightened in this thread.
For those of you that do have sex, why? What made you decide to be sexually active?
For those that abstain, why do you? Have you made a commitment to remain abstinate, or has the oppurtunity to have sex just not come up yet?

i dont really "abstain" persay, i just have not found someone i would want to do it with. I value my sexuallity (lame i know) so i want to be in a relationship (aka realtionshits) before. and that has not happened yet...i thought it did but she was fucking with my head really.

sure.. i guess its lame cus my friends would always get on me for it. and i always have to lie to people so i dont look stupid. its sad really but w.e. i mean my first real gf that i had been dating for a few months broke up with me cus i told her i was a virgin....wtfff!! and its not like i couldnt go and have sex with a random drunk girl at a party and get it over with....i want love!

Its a persons choice on whether they want to have sex with someone their with or not. Some people have more will power than others to say no or im not ready yet.
I dont think that the reason why someone doesnt want to have sex is because they're making a commitment to remain abstinate, they probably want to make sure that their not rushing into things and if they really want to have sex.
its always someones choice to have sex or not. |

There are people that actually do choose to be abstinate. I personally have made a commitment to remain absitinate from sexual behaviors until marriage.
And as for your last comment.. I dont think anyone on this thread has even tried to suggest that sex is a choice(well, other than in the case of rapes). I know in my OP it was clearly stated it was a choice. I was simply asking why, what was the motive behind that choice. I have not seen anyone else try to argue that it is not a choice either. |

I choose not to have sex at the moment because I'm waiting for someone I really trust and care about... and that person should trust and care about me to. And I haven't found that yet.
I'm not planning on waiting until marriage but I don't want to loose it to someone just because "I want to have sex".

well...that's why I'm doing it now... Like if I had two choices of either bowling or not bowling, I would vote for bowling b/c bowling is fun and i'd rather do that than not bowl. if that made any sense I'm not sure....but i really feel like bowling and having sex. |

Well I don't know anything about bowling.... But I do know that most people, especially in our age group, put way too much emphasis on their sex lives and "give it up" too soon in their lives. There is no way I'd sleep with a girl unless it felt 100% right and 100% natural, for her sake and for my own. I haven't made a conscious decision not to have sex, but I've made one not to have it unless it feels like the "next step" in a really strong relationshop. |
