When I look down at my erect penis, it looks to be very short, although measuring shows that it is perfectly average. When I look at it in the mirror it appears to be much, much larger than looking directly at it.
Do any other guys experience this visual illusion? It strikes me as very odd.

Yep, same with the muscles in my arms, because i'm so used to seeing them they don't look that big, but when other people see them they tend to comment on how big they are and if i've been working out - I do but i don't notice any change lol.

It's not an illusion your just looking at it from a bad angle. Your looking down on it while it is sloped down. Kinda like when you see something far away, if you measure with your fingers you can see an elephant though your fingers almost closed. The distance is shorter between base and tip if your looking down on it. Just look in the mirror if you want to see what others would. | |

I think this applies,
Dress makers, and clerks who work retail always say never look down on yourself, instead look in a mirror. You'll look bigger (waiste) because the angle your looking at it.
