I've graduated high school & one of my male teacher asked me out to lunch. Yes or No?

    • I've graduated high school & one of my male teacher asked me out to lunch. Yes or No?

I'm Chinese, female, 18, and I have graduated from high school last week.

So this teacher I'm talking about is my English teacher. He's British and he's probably in his late 40s.

I've known him for many years now, and I get along with him very well, both in lessons and out of lesson.

We sms and email quite frequently, and it is usually me who starts the conversation.

But a few days ago, he took the initiative and sms me and asked me to call him.
We've never had a phone conversation before but I found it quite pleasant, perhaps it was not appropriate? It was late in the evening.

Then, one day after our conversation, he asked me out for lunch. I agreed and our lunch is two weeks from now.

Should I have agreed? I really enjoy spending time with him, and lunch sounds like a great chance for us to get to learn more about each other...

But then again, is it inappropriate? I need some advice!!
      Thank you!

What kind of relationship is it, is it friendly or more than?
I wouldn't mind going out to lunch with one of my past teachers, she was like a big sister to me.

Well, I know it's a friendly relationship, but I really don't know if it's a bit more than that....

I say you go, find out his intents, f he just wants to be friends then tha'ts cool but if he wants more, you can decide if you wanna keep up on the dates or not.

well it sounds slightly sinester, but then again i have lots of stories you hear in the news of teacher and students, i think it could be completely innocent, at least if you are having lunch in public and he has a hidden agenda he cant try anything! i think it could be innocent, id really like to have lunch with a few past teachers, there was a few i got on really well with!!
you could find out his intentions by his general behaviour, like is he flirting with you, or just being a friend!! id be on your guard and be careful but it seems perfectly ok to me!!
      best of luck

I'm great friends with my old french teacher. She was a younger teacher, 28 atm, but we often talked bands and such in and out of school. Hell we went to a few concerts together and I talk with her frequently. Maybe it's because you've graduated that he just wants to keep contact with you? Like nothing says once you graduate you have to stop talking and being friends.

I'm so glad to hear positive stories about teachers/students.... Maybe he does want to keep in contact with me now that I've graduated. :) Thanks for your comment.

Is there any other students he's good friends with that he'd ask to do the same thing?

I'm pretty much in agreement with everyone else on the issue, but I wish you luck -- hopefully he just wants to keep in contact. If he gets too flirty, don't flirt back. Make it obvious that you're just meeting him to have lunch, not for anything more than friendship. I hope you don't have to worry about it and it's just a good time!

      No, I don't think so.

Thank you for you good wishes. And I too hope that he just wants to keep in contact. You made me feel a lot better. Thanks again. And to everyone actually. :D

Its totally up to you, because it is not illegal:) Personally I wouldn't because I would feel it to be too awkward. However you guys have a different relationship compared to mine with my teachers, the most I do is facebook them lol :)

Thanks for your reply. I guess the final decision is in my hands then... :)

well you clearly dont want him to be flirting with you from what you have told us soo if he starts just call him on it and tell him you dont see him in that way!!!

I'm sorry for my poor english, but do you mean by "call him on it and tell him you don't see him in that way"? Like stop him and say that I didn't expect that?

ohh sorry, i could have been alot clearer there, what i meant was like if he starts to flirt with you then just tell him to stop and that it makes you uncomfortable because you see him as just a friend!!
