I’m 16 and about to be a junior. My school has an Academic center where very intelligent 7th and 8th graders can come in and study along side each other and high schoolers. This will be my 2nd year being a mentor and I would like some tips. My first year went ok but I feel like I can do more. These kids range from 11-13 years old and I will have a group of 8 assigned to me (I also have a mentor partner for this group). How can I really connect with them? If you were in their shoes, what are the kind of things you would want your mentor to do for you? What kind of questions should I ask them when we first meet and hang out on the day of orientation? How do I make them feel welcome and confident? I take this so seriously because I just love being a mentor. Advice is greatly appreciated!! Thank you(:

Make sure not to be condescending, as well as not to be cheesy and fake.
I would say just act normal thats how I did it when I was an 8th grade "study buddy" for 6 th graders. -
Try and connect with them outside the academic aspect. Ask about hobbies sprts music etc and just talk about that when u have free time, it shows ur making an effort and im sure theyll feel more comfortable
