There's a lot of good music out today - just there's a lot of garbage too. I remember Ari Gold saying on another thread about how bad artists were eventually forgotten. And if you want some really good stuff that you know you'll love forever, you just have to search for a while.

to me, there's no such thing as good or bad music. yeah i liked the classics and for me it was the best but that doesn't make music nowadays as crap. music is an expression and it doesnt matter how shitty you may think it is. and like what the others said, everyone has their own taste in everything...

Nope. Well, not in my opinion. I'm a big fan of hard rock bands such as Guns N' Roses and Skid Row. I also like AVRIL LAVIGNE :o her songs are cheesy and a bit daft but IDC I LOVE HER!!! I was listening to one of Drake's songs 'The Motto'. The lyrics are stupid and make no sense but it's really catchy and lil wayne is hilarious "I drowned in her pussy so I swam to her butt"

I hate going on youtube and finding comments from 14-18 year olds saying "I apologize for my generation ruining music! The 80s were awesome!" and fail to recognize all the shitty pop music that existed during that time and other decades as well.

I have a hatred for chart music these days. I love all types of music, including rap and what really annoys me is all these people calling themselves rappers; such as Drake, and Lil Wayne. In my opinion they're a disgrace to rap music.

I don't think music will ever be as good as the 70's and 80's and 90's but if you know where to look you can find some decent modern music.

Mainstream is terrible, underground so-so.

Not all mainstream is terrible. The majority, but not all. Also the line between mainstream and underground has been blurred outrageouslyyyy over the last 20 years due to the internet.

Look at a band like Arcade Fire, they get close to 0 mainstream radio play. I don't watch MTV but I doubt they're on there. Yet they have millions of youtube views. A few hundred thousand followers on twitter. Their last album won a grammy for best album of the year... They're pretty much the mainstream of the underground... even my mom likes them.. so using blanket statements like "Mainstream is terrible, underground so-so" is ridiculous because there aren't definitive lines around either...

They're pure mainstream. Lots of people know Arcade Fire, especially after grammy award you've just mentioned. Also, bands do get mainstream without radio play. Mainstream is everything recognized by a large mass - across the globe. There have never been definitive lines. It's a subjective matter what is mainstream and what is not. Just by definition you can tell my mainstream is different that your mainstream.

Also, I couldn't care less about Arcade fire. I stick to that mainstream is terrible nowadays. It's what I think. I'm looking at mainstream as a whole. There's always exceptions, different groups like different things, but that's not what matters when you generalize. That being said, it's much easier to absorb info when being short, so you can tell if you're interested in what a person thinks. Saves my time, and a time of a reader.
