Poem: Empty Words and Broken Dreams

    • Poem: Empty Words and Broken Dreams

      Empty words on a blank screen
      Feedback from a failed confidant – useless;
      Glaring at me, coercing me -
      Empty;
      Given warrant only by the tears I shed.
      Torment, my torture, and my tears -
      Precipitation of the half of me that remains,
      The rest taken by the violent,
      Encroaching on my dignity with the violence of a thousand words.
      Voiceless to all but the voices in my head;
      Voices on replay;
      Recounting the blood I shed.
      In tribute to those violent
      Tears stained red, dripping
      Dripping, dripping;
      From thighs rubbed raw
      and wrists now drained.
      Twilight is my only friend
      Tempting me to keep running,
      Running, running;
      Toward the welcoming promise of unbroken dreams.
      Those empty words on a blank screen:
      Voices flooding these broken dreams
      “Useless,” they tell me.
      “Useless,” the mirror echoes back to me.
