Home STD check

    • Home STD check

STDs have become a hot topic over the last 10 years. Being in one relationship for a long time has meant I have not really had to think about the issue too much. Once I did, I felt kind of uncomfortably. I feel pretty embarrassed thinking about asking my doctor to do the tests on me.

Is it common now to ask for testing? Or is it better do purchase some home kits (found these - homestdtestingkits.org) Are these home kits reliable? How do you handle testing for something like genital herpes where blood test is unreliable and only certain tests are when lesions are in eveidence and can be swabbed?
Is it the same test for HIV, chlamydia, syphillis etc etc or is it a different test for each one? Are the tests expensive? Do you take them every time you meet a new potential sex partner?
How long do the tests take?
If you do both get testing, what is the process, do you sit down and show each other all the results of a clean billing or what?

I'm really interested in the practicallities of such an approach.

It's not relevant , only sure STD check can be done in hospital by specialist ... Screw that "home kits" ...
    • Doctors exist for a reason. They're much more knowledgeable and reliable than a kit you buy from some random drug company. Sure it might be embarrassing at first, but think about it: They've likely seen a way more penises/vaginas than you probably will in your lifetime, and for them its just another day at the office

I may have not answered the question directly, but I think that overall going to see a doctor is far more worthwhile than any tests you can do at home.
    • Home STD kits are unreliable. The only way is to see a doctor, and you, I think you are spamming. What's in it for you, eh?

Only a licenced physician will be able to give full treatment. Treatment that can be trusted including a blood test.

I think you are barking up the wrong tree.

Sadly, many do this these days. They rarely go to the forum to introduce themselves which was once the thing to do... which, IMO have always thought only courtesy. Instead they post wherever they wish on the forum, invariably putting up a link, they get replied to and don't return again.

Yes, it does me... If you see the number who join the forum just to have one question answered, you will see it's 90% application rate.

I like helping people. Not being a teenager any more means I have life experience and want to pass on advice.

I the OP appreciated what people had to say, but mostly new people ever give any thanks.
