      That place

      Situated inside of every soul,
A residence that fills that empty hole,
That place beneath the flesh, beneath the bone,
The old, familiar space that you've always known.

Some are crowded, open and exposed,
But mine is boarded up, locked and closed,
Some are thriving in sweet populace,
Though I'll shut you out, just in case.

      Colour drenched the preceding day,
      Now painted shades of grey,
      Neon invitation powered down,
Locked is no longer adjective, now a noun.

It is here that I reside,
      In myself, I'm trapped inside,
It is my solace, It is my fall from grace,
I am here with my staff and with my throne,
I rule this kingdom, I inhabit it alone.

      Inside

      I let you inside,
      I let you too deep
      When you turned to leave
the blade you left in me turned too,
wrenched my innards and cleaved my soul.

I'm bleeding out from the affliction within.
      Ensued with an enigmatic contradiction,
For the confidant of my trust has deceased,
      and reborn an adversary.

      In times of desperation
      pain turns to anger,
      and anger turns to rage,
Shakespeare said all the world is a stage
I'm not acting when I say I hate you.

      The fact is made worse,
as despite the loathing and detest,
      remains a fragmented feeling,
      that overcomes the host,
for it's existance is not expressed,
      however, it cannot be suppressed.
It is a love, it is care, but not for you,
but for what you were to me

      A Moment

      The hourglass stands,
      timely sand falls,
      right from the start,
      forthcoming end calls.

      A moment arrives
      A moment passes
      A moment bestowed
      A moment is spent
A moment further from where we started.
A moment closer to your end.
      A moment consumes
      Wasted or worthy?

      One Step Too Far

When I was just a little boy,
Papa brought me a brand new toy,
      67 Cadillac,
Done in black, front to back,
      Prepped out for the track.

One more shot glass on the bar,
      Trippin over empty bottles,
On the way back to my car,
Speedin' out the lot full throttle,
Always new I'd take it one step too far.

      Sirens sounded at my rear,
Undettered, slip it into second gear,
      I-can-see-the-white-line-fadin',
      Police-car-behind-tailgaitin'.

      Wheels screechin' round the bend,
Tree ain't there before, don't pretend,
Thrillseekers life come to an end,
Better set a time and date with Satan,
Heaven knows how long he been waitin'.

One more shot glass on the bar,
      Trippin over empty bottles,
On the way back to my car,
Speedin' out the lot full throttle,
I always new I'd take it one step too far.

      Another number on the screen,
      Burning, mangled, smokin' wreck,
      Another smashed up hot machine,
      Gushin blood, broken neck.

I always new I'd take it one step too far.
      One step to far.
      One step too far.
I always new I'd take it one step too far.
