Well it depends on what kind of books you like.
I would recommend The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns.

1984 by George Orwell seems to be a good one. Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen is a good book, as well. I recommend both

I second The Alchemist

I personally think that is the best choice given out of all those recommended (not to say that I like it the best) because pretty much anybody can enjoy that book. Look for that.

The Other world Series by Kelly Armstrong, mystery/crime type thing with supernatural powers in it, surprisingly it works. Theres a few descriptive sex scenes though if that puts you off it.
