Any kind of label and stereotype is just annoying. For example, people argue over what a label applies to.

If it did then Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, and Dino Martin would be emo. There more classy then emo by all means.

I see emo as like, three different.. parts? I guess.

1) The style - hair, clothes, whatever. people who have the stereotypical "emo" look. as in the whole freshman class in my school. =\
2) The music - different people consider different things emo, I suppose. but that's where emo started, yeah?
3) Emotional - people who act like what one would consider "emo" or emotional or whatever.

some people will have all three, or just one, or whatever.


I would say I'm not into labels, but that would probably be a lie. People label things, it's what we do.

It's human nature to label, so as ridiculous as it is, it aint gonna go away.

Subcultures come and go. Emo will die in it's own time.

Labels in general should be removed but I have no particular about emos.

Give it a few years.. the emo phase has already decreased significantly. Its only a matter of time till its relatively disappeared. Happened with punks and stuff.

In all honesty, there is no such thing as an emo person, just posers that call themselves emo for attention. There are depressed people, though.

Haha you can't control sociaety...if one leader does something everyone follow, and it drifts...soo....what are you gunna do..things happen...just because one person decided to make it happen.

Whether we like stereotypes and labels or not they're going to stick around, as human beings we naturally flock to what we conform to the most or the people that are like us. So people into sports hang with each other, artsy people hang with each other, emotional people hang with each other, intelligent people are around one another and so on and so forth then occasionally there's the person that doesn't fit anywhere and is either a common friend among people or is a loner. Don't expect human nature to change because it's not right because let's face it the human race is the root of all evil.

I've never been labelled and I'm glad I've not, I'd much rather be myself and if people don't like it... tough shit their problem

I think people just shouldn't take labels so seriously. They aren't ever going to go so it's better to just accept it and move on. Only label I don't like that I get sometimes is Chink ... cause I'm not Chinese ...

Sometimes labels don't quite match up with what they're supposed meaning is. It's just a quirk of society. Getting rid of the word "emo" won't change the fact that people will consciously separate a group of people and form a catch-all descriptor to determine a stereotype of how they think that person will act or talk.

The word could have been something else entirely, and you'd probably still be here crying about how unfair it is to label people according to how they dress. So here's two points to think about:

1) the word is arbitrary. The name itself doesn't really "mean" anything, as its definition changes from person to person. Labels still exist and always will. It's fact of life, and there's a reason for it.

2) Labeling and stereotyping is not only a natural means of categorizing things and people you meet in life, it's also a potential survival tactic. Information gleaned from a person's dress and lifestyle determine how much at ease you think you should feel around them. Are all bikers mean hard-asses who will whup your ass if you make a pass at their women? No, but enough of them are that you'll think twice before doing so, or avoid the whole situation entirely.
