I'm about to get oblivion and looked at a oblivion wiki, it looks pretty confusing. What classes/races are good? Any tips at all would be appreciated

It really doesn't matter what race you pick or class. Just pick one that you'd like.I give cam shows every now and then, but I MUST know you and be comfortable with you before I will do them for you! If interested, contact me and get to know me!

There's no superior race or class in Oblivion, just pick your favourite. There's an ubelievable amount of stuff you can do, so the only tips I can give you is take your time and have fun. It's not really a game you can set out to finish from the get-go.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

I personally prefer using Imperials, but there is no superior race in Oblivion. Each race has its pros and cons. Argonians for example can breath underwater, while Khajiit has Eye of Night (you can see better in the dark).
Argonians and Khajiit are better if you want to join the Thieves or Assassins guild.
Elves if you want to join the Mages guild
Orc or Nord if you want to join the Fighters guild
Breton, Imperial and Redguards are more neutral. It just depends on what items and spells you have.
I just used an Imperial and joined all the guilds, while completing the main mission, and any side missions that come up.
You are going to spend months playing this game.

It is a good game and as everyone else says there is no better or worse classes - and its not that confusing after you play it for a while you will get used to it. Have fun I hope you enjoy.

I had exactly the same problem when I bought the game, but I just mixed and matched until I found what I liked. I personally prefer Khajiit or Imperials, simply because I prefer to play as a Ninja/Warrior sort of character, it entirely depends on how you wish to play the game, I recommend creating a few save games (Yeah, the intro is boring after a few times but it is beneficial) and just switching up the classes/races on each until you find one you like. Even if you can't find the perfect race or class, there's so much to do in the game, you'll end up getting hooked anyways."If you don't live for something, you die for nothing."

I prefer the stealthy approach but that's just me

i see my brother playing this game all the time. i might have to give it a try now

Prepare to have your time sucked away. Huuuge game with tons of quests
As for races, here are my thoughts of them in general. Keep in mind that any race can do fine at anything. They just have advantages in certain areas.
Orc: Big, heavy warriors that can repair their heavy armor with ease, and smack enemies around with big weapons. They are slow but powerful.
Redguard: The best warrior race in the game. They can use any weapon or any type of armor well, and are fast and deadly. Not the best mages though.
Dark Elf: These guys are good at both magic and swords, so if you want a fighter/mage combo, this is your race.
Breton: The magic humans. Perfect for a pure mage class, with bonus mana and a high recharge rate.
Nord: My favorite race. Big warriors like the Orcs, except not as clunky and they get a bonus in Restoration, which means you can heal yourself up after a fight fairly well.
Wood Elf: I've never used this race, but I know they kick ass at archery. Stealthy too.
Argonian: The lizard people. They're good thieves, but they can breathe under water, and are good at magic too. Good if you want a thief/mage class. And they look cool
Imperial: The jack-of-all-trades. They have some bonus points in heavy armor, but they can do whatever you want them to.
Khajiit: The cat-like ninja race! These are made for stealth, and excel at jumping around, opening locks, and beating enemies to a pulp with their bare hands er, claws. Blades work fine too hehe
High Elves: The best mages in the game, but have very low strength, and need to watch out for other mages. Not much of a problem since you can summon up minions and blast your enemies from afar.
So there you have it. One last word of advice is to not go with any of the pre-made classes. Just choose custom class when the guy asks, and pick which skills you want.
Darn now I want to play it...It's love, it's love, it's love, make it HURT! -
I actually started again. Honestly, race doesn't matter much except for Breton's. Their racials are AMAZING so no matter what class you wanna follow, try a breton as in the long run the stats don't matter and it comes down to racials.

I was on this the other day. I completed the fighting arena game thing and I now I literally have no idea what to do on this damn game. Anything other then quests? How do I get a better weapon then silver longsword?
-
You get better weapons as you level up since all gear is leveled (unfortunately). There are hundreds of dungeons to crawl and you can always go on a fun rampage and kill a whole city
-
Hehe good luck with that since the guards level up with you. But then again, since you like stealth, that may not be a problem...
As for you Cornflakes, join the fighters guild or do the main quest. That should keep you busy for a long timeIt's love, it's love, it's love, make it HURT! -
I'm a Nord
All I have to say is *SPOILER ALERT OMGZZZZZZZZZZZ*
Towards the middle/end (idk) where you have to close all the Gates and go to the towns for Bruma is confusing as fuck.
*SPOILER ENDZ* -
Are you guys talking about oblivion for pc or 360? I'm wanting to get it for my laptop but not sure if I can run it good enough. Don't want to be running around killing shit at 12fps.Dropping the ball is what we do.

Depends on what you like. Every race has their own benefits, the game kinda explains everything, like who is the best at wielding what. Like, obviously Orc used blunt weapons, Wood elves use bows (right?) , etc etc etc.
I swear the games really good at teaching that stuff[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC] -
