Can you be pro life and also support the death penalty? How does that make sense?

I can see how it's possible. Pro-life for fetuses because they haven't had the chance to live or be somebody. Death penalty is used on criminals, so people could support it and say that they're taking bad people out of this world. I'm not saying that's how I feel, I'm just saying I can see how it's possible.

I'd never even considered that pro-life would mean pro-life in general rather than just in relation to pregnancy. All the pro-life people I've ever known just talk about it in terms of abortion.

Just because they are "pro-life" doesn't mean that they can't be supportive of punishment. Using the term "life" to define the views is just semantics.

I don't think that you understand what "semantics" means.
Many words can mean different things under different circumstances busing the term "life" as an ultimate definition of one's beliefs totally ignores of concepts of those beliefs in terms of what the counter opinion is (when discussing a dicotomy like pro-life/pro-choice).
The "pro-life" stance refers to, in all cases that I've heard, abortion. To broaden the term to define a believer's opinions in other aspects is a bit absurd.

Generally, the point is that they think everyone should be given A life. What they do with that life after is their choice.
