Just talk about stuff that actually happened good or bad. Don't ignore bad stuff about someone just because it's someone that we want to look up to and on the flip side of that don't refuse to recognize someone's contributions just because they did things that wouldn't be acceptable now that were acceptable when they lived. I think most people who are really into being part of a group like that or are super into politics on either side or anything else like that to the point where it is their entire personality are just looking for an excuse to find a group of people to be pissed at and blame all of their problems on. "I can't get laid or get whatever else it is I want out of life? It's obviously the fault of women who don't want to live like it's 1950/horrible men/democrats/republicans/anyone other than me!"
