  • Quote from No1sPerfect: “So I've been thinking about this lately: what is love? I mean really, does it even exist? Currently my thoughts are that it doesn't, that it is a nice idea but is in the end, a fictional form of sexual desire. Take animals for instance. You would think that if "love" in humans existed it would exist in them too; yet they don't go about giving each other roses and boxes of chocolates (metaphorically speaking). They quite frankly, "fuck on the first date". ” Yeah, animals …

  • Right, but while you could technically force someone not to have an abortion, you can't force them to choose to have a healthy pregnancy. I wish it wasn't the case, but even people who want to have kids do dangerous things when they're pregnant, so I can't imagine someone who doesn't want one would be much better. It's just speculation, though - of course everyone wouldn't be like that.

  • Quote from Blur: “If the pro-abortionists aren't killing the babies for the heck of it, or for health concerns then does'nt Luklaadvocate's idea of benefits for the mothers weaken the arguments about economic position? And if you fear that the baby will be emotionally or physically unsafe with you, give it up for adoption? there are a whole lot of people who are willing to love your unwanted mistake. =/ ” The only problem here is the point I made earlier in the topic - the "care" issue doesn't s…

Quote from artizhay: “Generally, you can tell a lot about a person by how they look. Head down, you've probably been through a lot of crap. Tough skin, you're probably disciplined because you work hard and long. It's my belief that psychics use and manipulate this information to concoct a vague "outlook" on your life that would be pretty obvious to anyone.” Yeah, I think this too. Same goes for mentalists or mind-readers or anything of the sort; my sister had a mentalist come to her school and b…

  • Quote from lcky: “ PETA is the worst animal rights group that I've heard about so far. I used to believe in the crap they talked about, but they're just a bunch of hypocrites. PETA doesn't save animals. They kill animals! In 2009, out of the 2,366 animals they received 8 were adopted out, 31 were transferred to other facilities, and 2,301 were euthanized. Meat is murder? Killing 2,301 helpless animals for no reason is murder. ” I'd call myself animal welfare, I'm not so much into the rights thin…

  • Quote from David!: “STFU you're the luckiest person on Earth. Seriously, S the F U. ” Haha really, I had a gay friend who played football and he said it really wasn't that great or special to be in the change room with a bunch of other guys, "I mean, unexcited penises aren't really much of a turn on." In all seriousness to OP, just don't shower if you don't want to. Our changeroom had curtained showers but there was only 4 of them so it sucked waiting in line. If I was in a hurry I'd just …

  • Everyone is right - even if you both go there you won't have to see him or deal with him if you don't want to. There's lots of people I know are here and haven't seen around, and there are even people I met on the first day that were in my classes that I haven't seen since. If you don't want to see him, you don't have to - just focus on school and all the new friends you'll likely make, and don't let the fact that he's there bother you.

Quote from Frosty: “grains2.jpg Getting an extra 2.5 grams of fiber, 0.5 grams of protein and miniscule amounts of micronutrients doesn't turn white rice into some sort of magic weight loss food.” I didn't say it was magic, I said it was better. My nutrition text book has a similar chart, except it's a bar graph comparing white bread, fortified white bread, and whole wheat bread. The whole wheat matches the fortified in some categories but kicks it in everything else. I know it's not rice, but s…

Quote from Frosty: “And brown rice isn't much more nutritious than white.” I've seen you post this a number of times. Brown rice vs white rice, or whole grains vs refined/enriched... Brown is less processed and has more fibre and more nutrients. Rice may not be ideal, but it'd still be better to eat brown rice than white rice. Even if white rice is enriched, it doesn't compensate for all the nutrients/fibre lost in the extra processing.

  • She could either be very comfortable and friendly with you, or it could be something more. But unless you have a reason not to trust your friend, she could very well be [unintentionally] leading you on. But even if it was untrue, perhaps her feelings have changed since then. The only way to know is to ask her, which you've already stated you're planning on doing. Good luck.

  • There could be any number of reasons it's happening. They're jumping ship because they're in the same boat as you - kind of "trying out" new friends. You may feel like you're being the annoying one to always start conversations first and such, but maybe to a lot of people that's a relief - it seems like the majority are the people who are too afraid to be the first one to say hi, or want to "test" people by waiting to see if they'll text first. My first year was like that too, I suppose. I went …

  • I don't think it should be played down, because it's obviously still and issue and it's sad when it happens, and something that can be prevented. I do agree that they attention they receive is a little unwarranted, but that goes for almost any high school death - it's devastating, but people that previously didn't give two shits about the person in question suddenly care so much. There was a kid in our school that did it and he only had a couple close friends; everyone else just saw him as a mes…

  • They are being quite overprotective, but I disagree with the people that say you should rebel. One of my friends had very similar parents and rebelling didn't help the situation at all. He lived with it until they let up a little when he was older (around 18), and then once he moved out he had complete freedom. He said he tried talking to them, but I honestly don't think he ever sat down and did it in a calm, serious way. I think you should try to have a solid talk with them about what bothers y…

  • Try to remember that they're not staring because they're trying to hurt their feelings, it's just likely something different that they're not used to, and the reaction for a lot of people when that happens is to stare. Embrace it. If people stare at you, look at them and give them a smile or something - if you don't let it bother you, they won't let it bother them as much. Some may even find it inspiring. There's also tons of help lines and even places like this where you can go to simply talk t…

I've never bought one and probably never will. I'm cheap. :p I know someone who has a purse that her mom bought her that she claims is "worth more than her life". I'd never want to be responsible for having to look after something that expensive, haha.

  • Quote from artizhay: “Honestly, AP classes in high school are a crapload harder than college courses (going to University of Houston). Of course, schools vary in difficulty, but each of my current classes (History, Calculus II) is easier than its AP counterpart (AP US History, AP Calculus).” I agree with this - AP in high school seemed way more difficult and had a heavier workload than university (but then again, in university no one is telling you that you have to do anything, you could easily …

  • Quote from Antagonist: “It appears as if people tend to use abortion like it's some kind of birth control. Here's my question to those who are pro-abortion: If there is nothing wrong with it, why does everyone (including pro-abortionists themselves) wish to reduce the number of abortions?” Because it's not an ideal to have everyone doing it. It's not like anyone wants to get pregnant and have an abortion just because they can (I'd hope). Even though someone thinks they're okay doesn't mean they …

  • Quote from dusk: “I don't see it as any less fucked up to kill an animal painlessly, I don't care enough about pain, I would like to live so i can live, not so that I don't have to feel pain.” Quote from dusk: “I don't know what they feel, I'm not a cow, and neither are you, maybe they do have a sense of honor, maybe not, but I do. ” I know we aren't cows but it's pretty evident that they (or most other animals) don't have a sense of what kind of death/pain is "honourable". If the examples I gave…

  • Sex is the mechanism for reproduction, yes, but we're not the only species that has sex as a past time (for "pleasure", if you will). There's a few different debates you posted in one topic, but since abortion is already being addressed in another... If people only had sex when they wanted to have a baby, there'd be a lot of sexually frustrated people in this world. What about gays? They can't reproduce, so should they never have sex, or is it okay for them to do it for fun since they don't run …
