My mother usually buys clothes for me since I'm not earning my own money yet, hehe I don't have a work atm. Some were presents from my aunts, cousins and all. I think it's safe,I've done two of my ear- cartilage pierce at home. I just used an alcohol and safety pins. I don't think there are downsides unless you have some allergies (I'm not sure). Take precautionary measures before doing so though,just to make sure.
