When I was younger, I used to get really embarrassed too when the attention was on me. So I would always stay quiet and out of conversations. What you need to do is realize they are your friends for a reason, you don't have to be embarrassed for talking or being who you are. You maybe have severe social anxiety, and the only way to cure that is to keep putting yourself out there that way you become more comfortable talking.
