My biology teacher didn't believe in evolution or abiogenesis, so that was a class riddled with ignorant remarks like I've never seen.

  • Quote from Archizy: “LOL I should have written that better. What Zen said was "I wasn't aware you were the one who decided who was conservative or liberal. As I said, politics isn't linear." I'm not saying anyone here is one or the other, I'm saying that certain beliefs are generally regarded as being in a certain category of political thought. You may agree with conservative and liberal ideas and not have to choose one side. And if you believe that a certain opinion or belief does not fall into…

  • Freshman and Junior isn't considered taboo in the slightest here. Go for it and have fun.

  • Quote from Archizy: “You have to have some category where your beliefs fall. I guess I'm a nazi marxist baby hater since politics aren't linear. My point is no one fits the exact mold, but you need to know who is who.” What?

  • I wasn't aware you were the one who decided who was conservative or liberal. As I said, politics isn't linear.

  • I know plenty of conservatives who believe in public education or universal healthcare.

  • I am a moderate economically, but very liberal on social issues. I would probably align myself more with the Social Democrats of the world today. I don't think there is a certain right way to manage a country due to the widespread unique problems of the world today so I don't tend to disagree with conservatives or liberals except for a few circumstances, ignorance being one of them. You do understand that calling someone a conservative or a liberal is a very linear way of approaching things, cor…

  • Lukla basically said everything I could better than I would, but the interesting thing about this thread is the fact you've generalized every Catholic and held them to unrealistic standards. Everyone interprets religion in a different way and to different extents.

  • Like I stated two posts ago, I understand your point. I never said anything to the contrary of it or even disagreed. I was bringing up a different approach for the sake of discussion. I, personally, couldn't care less if God's name is in the pledge or on our currency. You were the one who jumped on my post, called it irrelevant, and proceeded to attempt to disassemble what I said as if it would somehow assist your position.

  • Quote from TPM: “the last time i said your post was irrelevant, i was not being all that truthful. however, this time i am 100% in the clear in saying your post is completely irrelevant and unproductive, and partially untruthful. The reason we have a democratic republic is not to protect the rights of the minority; however the reason is to protect the rights of all the people of the country. the way of thinking behind my last post does not matter, as, like i said previously, regardless of which …

You are definitely not alone in this. I think everyone does this at some point, some more than others. Its a common thing for teenagers to do.

  • And what is your opinion of the other faiths? What makes them above Christianity? Buddhists and Hindus have warred as well, just not so much in recent times. Sri Lanka, for example, is a modern Buddhist terror state.

I don't think its fair to throw every Christian under the same banister due to the nature of some malicious members.

  • Its interesting to note that almost all of the best arguments for God rely on faith or trust, as opposed to proof or research.

Quote from chocoloca: “Of course I have to socially conform to the government in order to live amongst other people. That doesn't mean I have to favor it.” If you aren't in favor of being told what to do, a country like Somalia would be more to your interest.

  • The reason we have a democratic republic is so that the rights of the minority can be protected. I understand the point you're making, but that way of thinking doesn't solve much at all.

Quote from chocoloca: “Is it not better to decide right and wrong by appealing to the conscience that is in all of us rather than the government? Anyone could respect the law as much as what is right, however the only obligation I feel I have the right is to do what I think is right. A person living in whatever country that is in war with another is oblige to pay taxes that are used to fund wars. Also the people sitting in power no doubt use it to better themselves or whoever they want to. Unwar…

  • Separation of church and state isn't mentioned in any of the documents, its a phrase used by Thomas Jefferson in a letter to describe the 1st Amendment. Just throwing that out for reference.

The best part is, he's over the average age for an octopus. He's becoming mythical.

  • Try to be more compassionate. Feign interest if you have to, as long as it makes your friends happy. If they're happy, you should be. Try smiling more and always seem interested in what they say. These are key to growing compassion.
