I'm pretty much the same way. I think preferences change as you get older, it's a pretty normal thing. I think as you continue experiencing things, you'll find something you can really stick to - something you would want to invest your time in. You'll figure it out, don't worry!

My mom's side of the family is exactly the same way. The only time they come over is where they know something is in it for them. A general meeting invitation is usually ignored. I agree with what the others have said. You need to let him know how much it means to you to visit him and how much you want to meet.
