For a long time, I've been having mental health issues, of which the biggest is that I am psychotic. It's mostly controlled by medication and sheer force of will, but I still have frequent hallucinations. I can tell that they aren't real and usually am able to make them go away, and they aren't really affecting my life (with one rather large possible exception that I don't want to go into but will if asked), but I'm pretty sure that having random hallucinations is not normal. Anyone here play interactive fiction (also known as "text adventures")? If you don't know what IF is, I'll explain it.
