I think it just invites awkwardness. How do you accept a compliment on something you had no control in creating? If you want to be a smartass, how would you even accept the compliment for your parents? Your parents didn't even control what you looked like. It's some possibly random combination of genetics.. and even then, your parents' looks were the product of their parents' genetics, and so forth. So how would you even respond to a compliment like that? Thanks? Perhaps you should be a mock religious smartass and be like, "thank God not me for my gorgeous looks," but then bringing in God for something like this.. wtf?
If someone commented on how well directed the movie Almost Famous was to you, would you say thanks..? I guess not but might as well since people do similarly when receiving compliments on their looks.
