I'm worried.

    • I'm worried.

I finish school in October, have exams in November, and then next year I get this number known as an ATAR, which basically "labels" you when you're looking to get into University. I'm hoping at least for an 85, but I'm worried I won't get it.

At the school I was at last year I pretty much excelled at English and Literature - my marks varied from B's to A's, same with my Psychology marks. However, at my new school, my marks in Literature are C's and D's. Other students in my class who haven't had this teacher before are showing the same trend.

Now, with our marks, it pretty much works on a "study score" out of 50 for each subject. For subjects under the Maths and Science umbrella, your study score is marked up, e.g. a 40 in Specialist maths becomes a 47. However, for subjects under the Humanities and Arts umbrella, your study score is marked down.

My problem is, my subjects are mainly under the the Humanities umbrella, with Literature, Classical Studies and English Language. My other two subjects are Psychology, which only gets marked up by 2, and General Maths, which ACTUALLY gets marked down, considering it's under the Maths umbrella, and is fairly decent for a maths class.

From your study scores, and the marks you get on your exams, an ATAR is derived. And I think mine is going to suck, since your ATAR is derived from your best English study score, then the next best four study scores (called the primary four).

      I'm worried. I guess I just needed a vent.
