mac vs pc

    • Re: mac vs pc

Neither. PC(Windows) is utter fail. It's a spawning pit for viruses and even with the best security measures, you can still be hacked easily.

Mac is getting closer, for it's based on Unix and pretty fun.

However, my choice is Linux. :) Forever and always. I am currently running Debian Squeeze with Fluxbox. Talk about minimal ;) It's pretty sexy tbf. Wish I could get the boot speed up a bit higher though. (Although there's never really any need to reboot a Linux box >.>)

i find mac to be clearly dominant in features and stability, though windows is simpler to use/makes more sense, and supports more programs

And you forget, Macs are PCs as well.

windows requires so much extra shit just to keep the thing running smoothly which end up fucking the computer over anyway

macs "just work" and you dont have to waste time messing with all that

I'd rather have a PC. Once you figure them out there's more you can do with them. IMO a mac is live a computer with training wheels, people that aren't pro with computers love them because you can just hop on and use it. But a PC is the full fledged BMX. You gotta learn to ride it before it's magnificent. And everyone knows you can do a lot cooler things on a BMX.

There are still exceptions to every rule though i.e. RMG could prolly kick anyone's ass with his training wheels :p

What's so good about an OS on training wheels?

if "training wheels" means no hassles, i'll gladly take them

i don't get a computer to work on making the computer work, i get a computer to use the computer. not having to re-install my OS every 6-12 months and download a bunch of resource eating shit for protection, registry repair, etc is enough for me to never want to go back.

Just FYI, semi-regular reinstallation is a good idea no matter what OS you're running, to keep things running smoothly. I do it every 6 months or so, and then restore from backup.

Don't download shit that "eats resources" then. If you want to keep your registry clean, use CCleaner. It's free and lightweight, and in addition it can also remove crap like Yahoo! toolbars and other unnecessary things. Do backups on an external hard drive, and reinstall your OS every 6 months or so. If you buy a new Windows computer, always do a clean install immediately after booting it up for the first time...this will remove all the OEM bloatware and you'll see much faster boot and shutdown times.

      It's very simple.

i've used ccleaner, and it only works well at the very beginning. no xp solution i've tried has worked well long enough. clean install means having to re-install a whole bunch of drivers and programs, and even WITH a complete re-install and no programs being put on an external to put back on i'll run into the exact same issues. with mac i just start it, go and get my shit done. i havent had my computer for long so i'll see if this changes, but for now im glad i own a mac as opposed to windows, and the mac only program ive been using for making music called logic is top notch. it'd be nice if i could figure out how to get XP like simplicity, and a right click function, but besides that i'd be sad to have to go back, unless im getting a quad core system then maybe i can deal :P

Ugh wtf...I was talking about Windows 7. XP is pig disgusting, it's 11 years old. If you've got a PC then Windows 7 is the way to go.

And of course you have to reinstall drivers, that's so your shit will work. It takes a total of 10 minutes, and that's only once every 6 months. Less time and effort than it takes to search for a porno and jack off to it. :D
    • Re: mac vs pc

eh, im running windows 7 on my netbook. cant complain cause its run smooth so far but i barely do anything on it.

as for drivers it takes me way more then 10 minutes, probably cause i keep finding ones i didnt even know i needed/had. that plus the fact that i have to go on another computer and put some drivers on a disk just so i can transfer it over to use internet. small shit though yeah, but its the problems that lead up to having to reinstall that piss me off, especially when they pop up not long after the installation.

I'd rather have his setup than mine. It takes me 10 minutes to boot up on and I have to fuel the power supply with a coal powered steam engine and use a series of valves and levers to initiate the startup sequence. If none of the vacuum tubes break, it can stay up for hours without crashing.

Ahh yep, just like our first computer. I dunno about yours but ours was running Windows steam age :p

mac chargers cost £50ish to get a replacement :@

All chargers run about that much regardless of brand. Apple, Dell, Sony...all the ones I've seen are $80 and above. You can buy much cheaper generic ones but those will burn your house down.

Well there are no generic Mac ones, but yeah. Chargers are expensive.
