The author put the word in the book for a reason, so you shouldn't take it out. If the school doesn't like it, then it should not force the students to read it.

I don't think it's so much a matter of it taking away from the history, I think it's more to do with the fact that, according to the basic idea of freedom of speech, we should all be able to say whatever the hell we want.
