I want to drop Chemistry.

    • I want to drop Chemistry.

So, this year I am starting to take courses that will get me into university, and I want to become a teacher. Mainly in English or, Social Study courses (Geography, History etc.)

Now, since my parents want me to get into a great school, they're making me take the 3 science courses I'm offered at my age (Biology, Chemistry, and Physics). I am absolutely TERRIBLE at science. I'm a smart kid, like I don't mean to toot my own horn here, but I am! Just not in Science. I want to drop Chemistry, but my parents will no way in HELL let me. I've been begging. I am willing to keep Physics and Biology, to actually have some science courses on my transcript, but Chemistry is my weakest link. Also, I need 30 Highschool credits to graduate. I have 17. If I drop Chemistry this year, and pass the rest of my courses, I will have 24. Leaving me only 6 courses for my final year of school. So, it isn't like I need the class.

Is there any way I can convince my parents to let me drop Chemistry?

PLEASE PLEASE help! I would totally appreciate it.

      Thanks SOOOOO much in advance!
Life is a drum set. Rock it.

If you feel like you ABSOLUTELY need to drop it, then explain to them that if you keep it and get a bad grade, then it will lower your GPA and make your transcript look bad, then if you were to just drop it. However, I feel as if you should exhaust all possible options before you drop it, as chemistry is a good class to have. Try tutoring, setting up some group hang outs with some people in your class and studying, asking the teacher for help and extra credit, etc. Don't just drop it because you're not good at it. Chemistry is a hard class and it takes work.

Right I am in Scotland so know nothing about your courses or the GPA score in th eprevious answer. Can you explain to your parents that the course and work needed may drop your other marks - is it a situation where as you say "no way in hell will they let you so are you kinda fighting a battle you will lose or maybe one of your parents will kinda listen. some of my problem is that I am the youngest of 4 brothers they are more clever than me so its always like compare time.

maybe there is someone at school you can talk to also

      Hope this helps

What are you interested in becoming? Personally I would drop physics out of the three... or perhaps take gr 11 and 12 chem next year? I'm doing physics 11 and 12 next year due to not enough time/classes. And honestly if you can't handle your course workload it might bring your entire gpa down more than its worth.

I really don't understand why your parents won't let you drop it. If you want to specialise in English and Humanities then surely you should be focusing on subjects associated with that, as opposed to sciences which you don't feel as confident in.

Besides, it's your future. Make your own decision, based on what you want.
