I don't agree with you. One thing is certain: the most rigorous method to know the size of the penis is to ask the boys to undress in front of you, penis erect. You will go to jail immediately!
There are two solutions left:
1. They are interviewed by telephone or through their school, with the compulsory authorization of their parents
2. We note what they write in a teenage forum, while maintaining their anonymity.
But I agree with you when you write that It focuses only on a specific range of people (english speakers, with access to Internet, subscribed to forums, willing to answer , so on.).
I also agree with Benni90er on this: asking that kind of things on teen forums to make a survey is just as illegal in nearly any country. What's worse, it could actually mean some teens would believe they are answering someone of the same age range while it isn't the case.
An adult asking a minor about his penis size, his sexual preferences or things like that is, outside a (private) medical context, totally wrong IMHO. There is no way around it, regardless of the method used to gather data. And no, the goal being purely scientific does not change this at all.
On what point don't you agree with me, actually? That data gathered that way isn't biaised? Or that it isn't reliable? Or that it isn't verifiable? Or that it is of no better quality than other methods?
