Just wondered if anyone else has been raised bilingual. Dad is Australian (kangaroos) and mom Austrian (mountains). Since we live in Austria (nowhere near the mountains), my German is better than my English (I think). We switch in between both languages at home, even within the same conversation, though dad hates it when we speak only German (especially when we talk fast). He's still not that fluent.

My family lived in different countries for a long time. So, in the course of my childhood and tween years, I spoke 5 languages, although I'm not fluent in all of them anymore. I just understand them sorta well. At home mostly French, English and German were spoken in a mix, in int kindergarten and int school it was mainly English and the respective national language. When I visited local friends, they spoke either French, Spanish, Dutch or Flemish Belgian.
After my parents divorced, I moved to Germany where my Dad comes from. We lived there for a few years and I was able to improve my German. At least that's what I thought. But my German grandparents are still not particularly convinced about this. My grandma once noticed that when it comes to pronunciation, my girlfriend speaks better German than I do. She's from Devon, south west of England. And she speaks four languages fluently. -
My mom speaks fluent Italian...but really only uses it with me when she is pissed off at me.

My family speaks Filipino at home but they were also raised bilingual as well (with English as second language). English is also one of the official languages in the Philippines but many people don't use the language outside business

I wasn't raised bilingual, but French is spoken by much of my family. My mom speaks it fluently; it was her first language. My dad's first language was Catalan. I have some knowledge of both, but the only language my parents had in common was accented English, so that's what I was raised with
