At the least, it's certainly weird that it's the only time society removes a healthy body part for no medical reason. (When people say it's cleaner, it is...kind of. There is a very diminished UTI rate in the first year, but I had a higher UTI rate than any boy in my first year. Besides, we have condoms for safe sex and showers for cleaning.)
We don't remove the appendix just because it could burst. If breast cancer runs in the family, we wouldn't remove our daughter's breast buds.
Mutilation is defined as:
The act of mutilating, or the state of being mutilated; deprivation of a necessary or important part, as a limb.
The act of mutilating, or the state of being mutilated; deprivation of a limb or of an essential part.
The act of mutilating or the state of being mutilated.
an injury that causes disfigurement or that deprives you of a limb or other important body part.
It's not really a stretch, IMO, but like I said, it's certainly weird it's the only healthy body part to be removed at birth...and it's the vast minority of the world (and even in the USA it's under 50%.)
I do wonder though something about guys. You've obviously seen many of your friends naked. Have you seen them all? I wonder how many friends (with and without foreskin) opt to change in private rooms for sleepovers, wrap in towels in locker rooms, etc...
Like if there's a group of 10 friends in the locker room at the pool, are they all going to change at a bench without a towel? I'm sure cut *and* whole kids opt for additional privacy for various reasons, but I can certainly understand if those 2-3 whole kids opt for additional privacy measures.

People seem to disagree about whether it has a purpose and therefore whether it should count as mutilation. Personally, I believe I can feel very good sensations from mime that I would obviously not have it it were not there. Other guys have been cut later in life and said sex is just as good as before, possibly because there is a lot more going on than just those particular sensations.Gabraham247 wrote:
Nah, mutilation is still a stretch imo. We do body modifications to a bunch of areas.
Seeing it as cosmetic, like a boob job or even like a tattoo or getting your tongue pierced, seems quite sensible and I am quite happy for people to make those kinds of choice about their bodies. I don't react badly or criticise anyone for having those things done, though depending on what it is, I might privately consider that it is not an improvement to my subjective idea of beauty.
On the other hand, in the same way we would not tattoo baby boys before they are old enough to decide for themselves whether they want to display that particular piece of art on their bodies, so I also believe we should refrain from cutting something off them until they are old enough to decide whether they want it there or not.

You think it works fine because that's all you know. If my thumb was removed at birth, I might go around saying my hand worked fine.
