The age limit is 5 to drink here but 18 to buy, most will start trying around 12/13 though

Here in the USA the legal drinking age is 21. Pretty much everyone in my high school who of course is not 21 has had at least a little alcohol before.

Most likely the age limit is because we aren't mature enough to drink responsibly, too many adults aren't either

Yeah I've seen my fair share of adults who shouldn't be drinking.

part of it's to do with the harm alcohol will do to your body when your younger. Is much easier to do damage to your organs, and can cause reduction in growth and other development

The other part is, like drugs, gambling and other things that have an age restriction, its because it's something that requires a level or maturity to do responsibly.

I've hardly come across anyone now who hasn't at least drank a little alcohol. it's probably much easier than people realize to get. I drink a little sometimes, and my mom knows that I do (not sure that my dad does). It's pretty readily available in my own house

The drinking age where I am from is 21. Having a boyfriend who is 21 it makes it pretty easy to drink although I probably don't drink as much as many teens my age.
