This is more to do with football but also a society question, should the Y word be banned and the Y word in question is yid short for Yiddish. Fans of Tottenham have sung the song Yid army for a number of years in response to being called Yids by revival fans. The term yid ass been deemed an offensive term or slur towards Jewish people and historically Tottenham is in a Jewish part of north London. At the moment the term is not a crime or considered offensive but there has been calls to make it a hate crime.
Should the Y word be banned

I'm gonna have to say no.
-
I think terms like that should not be used and I try to avoid words like that. However, I am not Jewish and think it's up to the Jewish community. If they think it is offensive or hurtful, it should be banned.
-
I know a Tottenham fan and he says that even Jewish Tottenham fans use that word. But I don't think I would it would make me very uncomfortable.
-
according to its actual meaning, Yiddish refers to a language that Jewish people speak, not the Jewish people themselves.
-
it kinda depends on the context. Theres a lot of words that to one person means something completely innocent, and to another it's highly offensive
As Yiddish is the Jewish language, and a large Jewish community influence in the club. If it's used in a bad way it would be bad. But equally if you ban it are you then wiping out that area of history, removing the Jewish people identity in the club

I think people are talking about the word Yid not the word Yiddish.

The Y here is an abreviation for YMCA as in, going to the Y.

No. It will koll fredom of speach. Any word cant be banned beauce it kills our freedom. It it the same for all wods around the world including yid , neger, nigga, mum, car, sun, ass, blue, love, ...

It should be banned from usage. The "Y" is derogative term for people of the Jewish faith. It carries the same connotation as the use of the "N" word. Those words should never be use to describe a race of people.Vivimus Volare, Volamus Vivere,

Personally, I am not in favour of putting restrictions on free speech into law and I think people need to get used to the idea that other people will sometimes say things that offend them.
On the other hand I think racism is very nasty and I would love to see people voluntarily choosing not to offend others. I also think that the likes of Football clubs and the FA can reasonably require those who attend games to refrain from things that are generally considered to be racially offensive. Those who don't want to comply with that can be banned from attending matches. -
There are literally so many words that are based off hard stereotypes of each race that given enough time and context we'll have to go about 'banning' hundreds of them. The solution is to either be more empathetic or just stop taking everything people say in heated settings very seriously. But 'banning' words per se isn't gonna do much other than giving us a few more reasons to 'cancel' people that mistakenly use them.

Depends on the context - who is saying it? It’s like a black people can call themselves n*****’s and no one else can, likewise only Jews, and really only Yiddish Ashkenazis can call themselves Yids
