Women's European Championship

    • In today's Quarter-final game Germany aim to take a significant step in their quest to secure a record-extending ninth European crown. But will not "underestimate" Austria, who have only conceded one goal (against England).

Germany have yet to concede, and are likely to hold an advantage over their neighbours in attack as well, having scored nine times compared to Austria's three.

The players will know each other well from club football - 35 of the 46 members of the two squads play in the German Bundesliga

    • Today's Quarter-final game will be Belgium's first taste of knockout football, with this being only the second major tournament The Red Flames have competed in after they were knocked out in the groups back in 2017

Their opponents Sweden are the top-ranked side in the tournament, ranked world number two, bronze medallists at the 2019 World Cup, and runners-up at last summer's Olympics, suffering a penalty shootout defeat by Canada in the Olympic final, and hope this time to secure their first piece of major silverware since winning the Euros in 1984.

Sweden will most likely need to change their line up as Defenders Hanna Glas and Emma Kullberg are doubts for the game after both tested positive for Covid on Wednesday. Veteran midfielder Caroline Seger, Sweden's most-capped player, has been out with a heel injury, but could return for game. And Jonna Andersson, was absent from Thursday's training session with mild cold symptoms.

The winner of the game will play England in the semi-finals at Bramall Lane next Tuesday, 26 July.

The top-ranked side at the tournament struggled to convert their chances into goals until Sembrant struck from close range in the dying moments.

    • Today's closely matched Quarter-final game is between France, who have never been beyond the Euros quarter-finals, and are ranked third in the world, and the defending champions, Netherlands, who are ranked fourth.

The Dutch have lost Lieke Martens to a foot injury, but Vivianne Miedema is back from a bout of Covid.

    • Today is the first Semi-Final where England, one of the pre-Euros favourites, have never won the trophy but their performances have raised expectations they could win a major tournament for the first time, will attempt to reach the European Women's Championship final for a third time when they face 1984 winners Sweden, ranked second in the Fifa rankings behind the USA and therefore the top-ranked team at Euro 2022, At Bramall Lane, Sheffield

England and Sweden have faced each other 26 times, but the Lionesses have won just three of those fixtures and beaten 15 times. Only against Germany (21) have they suffered more defeats.

The two sides have met seven times previously in the Euros, but England have triumphed on only one occasion.

That 1-0 victory came in the second leg of the inaugural final in 1984, but you can guess what happened from there - England were beaten on penalties.

That was the only time Sweden have lifted the trophy. They were beaten finalists in 1987 - when they were looking to defend the title - and again in 1995 and 2001.

It was a thrilling match from start to finish as Sweden piled on the pressure in the opening 25 minutes, only for England to dismantle them with ruthless finishing and a touch of class.

    • In today's Semi-Final France, who make make it to the final four after losing in the quarter-finals in 2009, 2013 and 2017, while they were also defeated in the semi-finals of the 2011 World Cup and 2012 Olympic Games, will attempt to reach the European Women's Championship final for the first time when they face Germany, who have won all four matches in this tournament, scoring 11 and conceding none. They have won the tournament on eight of the 12 occasions it has been held, including six times in a row between 1995 and 2013, although they did lose in the quarter-finals in 2017. At Stadium MK, Milton Keynes

Germany's 21-year-old Winger Klara Buhl who has played in all four games so far will miss the semi-final after testing positive for Covid.

Germany and France have met only 11 times before. Germany have only won 6 of those games. France has won 2 games and 3 games have ended in draw.

This is the first competitive match between the pair since the 2015 World Cup quarter-final in Montreal, when Germany progressed 5-4 on penalties following a 1-1 draw.

They have been paired together in the group stage at a EURO twice previously; Germany triumphed 3-0 at the 2005 edition before a 5-1 win four years later.

France's biggest defeat was 7-0 by Germany in September 1992

    • Eight-time European champions Germany will play England in the Euro 2022 final at Wembley on Sunday after they beat France in a dramatic semi-final in Milton Keynes.

After a quiet opening 40 minutes, Alexandra Popp put Germany ahead with a volley for her fifth goal in five games.

However, their lead only lasted four minutes before Kadidiatou Diani broke free and shot from outside the penalty area with her effort hitting the post and bouncing in off unfortunate goalkeeper Merle Frohms.

The Germany goalkeeper made three vital saves to keep it at 1-1 before Popp headed in her sixth goal of the tournament, taking her level with England's Beth Mead as joint leading scorer, for what proved to be the winner.

    • Today is the Final between hosts England, bidding to become the first England team to win a major trophy since the 1966 men's World Cup, and Germany, looking for a ninth European crown

The winner of the Golden Boot will be decided as Germany's Alexandra Popp and England's Beth Mead are tied on six goals apiece.

At Wembley, London. With a sold out 87,200 capacity this will not just be one of the biggest women's games ever. This will make it the most attended Euros game ever for men or women.

The winners will also compete in the first edition of the UEFA–CONMEBOL Women's Finalissima against the winners of the 2022 Copa América Femenina, Brazil, who yesterday won 1-0 in the final against Columbia

The sides are meeting for the second time this year, England winning 3-1 in a friendly tournament victory in Wolverhampton in February. But have never beaten Germany in successive matches; indeed, they won just one of the opening 26 encounters between the sides (D4 L21) prior to that victory in February.

The other loss for Germany was a 1-0 extra-time defeat in the third-placed play-off at the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup in Canada.

England's last Women's EURO final ended in a 6-2 defeat against Germany in Helsinki in 2009, the biggest final victory
