England wrapped up an impressive group stage at Euro 2022 as they comfortably beat Northern Ireland having already qualified for the quarter-finals.

Two-time winners Norway failed to reach the European Championship knockout stages for the second straight tournament after defeat by Austria, who booked their place in the quarter-finals as Group A runners-up.

Euro 2022 has broken the record for the total attendance at a European Women's Championship - despite still being in the group stage.

Euro 2017 in the Netherlands was attended by a total of 240,055 supporters, the record until now.

But the 8,173 who watched France beat Belgium 2-1 in Rotherham took these Euros to a total of 248,075 fans.

The record is likely to increase significantly with 15 games (after the France-Belgium game), including a likely record crowd for the Wembley final.

England's 1-0 win over Austria in the tournament opener was watched by a record 68,871 at Old Trafford, 27,570 clear of the previous landmark when Germany beat Norway in the 2013 final in Solna, Sweden.

The 28,847 who watched England beat Norway 8-0 in Brighton ranks fourth.

There was also a record set for a group game not involving the hosts when 21,342 watched the Netherlands and Sweden draw 1-1 in Sheffield.

The average crowd across the 16 games so far is 15,505

In the major decisive game of Group B Spain, who's defender Laia Aleixandri missed training on Thursday with a minor hamstring injury but will take part in Friday evening's session with the rest of the squad, will set up a Euro 2022 quarter-final against England if they avoid defeat by Denmark, who are likely to have a full squad to choose from, with forward Kathrine Kuhl available after missing the last game through suspension, at Brentford Community Stadium, Brentford

In the other game Germany, who have already booked their place in the last eight with victories over Denmark and Spain, look to have a changed line up as Felicitas Rauch and Lena Oberdorf will miss the game through suspension, while Lea Schuller is absent because of Covid-19, Germany coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg has also confirmed Lina Magull and Sydney Lohmann are unlikely to feature "as things stand", will look to end their Group B campaign on a high when they face Finland, who's forward Sanni Franssi missed Friday's training session as a precaution but still has a chance of making the squad, but can no longer qualify from the group after losing both their games so far, at Stadium MK, Milton Keynes

Ruthless Sweden marched into the quarter-finals of Euro 2022 after scoring three times in the first half to end Portugal's interest in the tournament.

The team ranked second in the world proved too strong for their opponents and will return to Leigh Sports Village next Friday to face Iceland, Belgium or Italy.

Belgium reached the quarter-finals of the European Women's Championship for the first time after overcoming Italy in a tense group finale

Tine de Caigny's low finish from the edge of the box secured runners-up spot to set up a last-eight tie with Sweden on Friday.
