It is interesting that some people have said they shave the bits that aren't on display but not the ones that are. That seems a bit odd. For me, I take the opposite point of view - if no-one is looking at it, why shave it?
Then on being as hairy as dad, certainly how hairy we are is genetic but just because a characteristic is expressed mainly on boys/men doesn't mean the genes are passed down exclusively from dads. Your mum will have had genes that relate to hairiness but, as she's female, she doesn't actually get the hair, or at least not to the same extent, but will still pass the gene on.
So, for example, if you're hairy and you dad isn't, what about your maternal grandfather?
