      Rashford (50'minutes, 68'minutes),
      Foden (51'minutes)

Marcus Rashford inspired England to the victory required to top Group B and ensure it was despair for Wales as they went out of the tournament after a bitterly disappointing World Cup campaign.

The first 45 minutes was mostly uneventful. But within six minutes of the restart that all changed.

Marcus Rashford fired a free-kick past Danny Ward following Ethan Ampadu's foul on Phil Foden after 50 minutes, with the Manchester City midfielder then marking his return to England's team moments later by turning in Harry Kane's cross at the far post.

Wales were demoralised and outclassed as they knew they were on the way home from Qatar and Rashford added his second in the 68th minute, with a large slice of help from Wales keeper Ward who allowed a fierce shot to slip through his legs.

      Pulisic (38'minutes)

Christian Pulisic scored the winner against Iran that sent the United States through to face the Netherlands in the World Cup last 16.

The Chelsea forward turned AC Milan defender Sergino Dest's header over the line seven minutes before half-time.

But he collided with Iran goalkeeper Alireza Beiranvand in the process and needed several minutes of treatment - before being replaced at the break.

In the second half, Iran came close to the getting the draw required yo stay in the tournament, Brentford's Saman Ghoddos came off the bench to strike inches over the bar when he was unmarked in the box, before Saeid Ezatolahi also curled over.

Perhaps their best chance came deep in stoppage time, when Morteza Pouraliganji met a free-kick with a diving header that went just wide.

And there was still time for controversy as Mehdi Taremi appealed for a penalty as he went down with Cameron Carter-Vickers trying to stop him, but their penalty appeals were rejected.

In the end, Iran exited the World Cup with a sense of disappointment as the USA made the knockout stages for the third time in four tournaments.

Argentina have a chance to claim top spot in Group D when they take on Poland in the World Cup on Wednesday

The tournament favourites in the eyes of many shocked the world when they fell to a defeat at the hands of Saudi Arabia in their opening bout in Qatar, but bounced back to earn an eventually comfortable 2-0 win against Mexico.

That three points puts them right on the tails of Poland, who overcame a matchday one goalless stutter against Mexico to see off Saudi Arabia and take an early lead in Group C.

Poland's Robert Lewandowski finally scored his first ever goal at a World Cup in Poland's win over Saudi Arabia and will be called upon to add more to that tally if his nation are to beat Argentina. They opted to play Arkadiusz Milik alongside Lewandowski against Saudi Arabia, which seemed to do the trick in unlocking their talisman. Escaping the victory without any fresh injury concerns, expect them to proceed again with a similar setup.

Argentina made several changes in there second game, but they didn't all seem to work as hoped. Some more re-jigging might be required as they try to figure out the stongest XI. Having heard that Kylian Mbappe had equalled his World Cup goal tally earlier in the day, Lionel Messi just had to score against Mexico to keep himself at the top of the tree. The seven-time Ballon d'Or winner underwhelmed until scoring, but will now hope the goal can get his tournament underway properly.
      ------------------------------------------------
Saudi Arabia and Mexico square off on the final matchday of Group C with a spot in the last 16 of the World Cup.

Having shocked Argentina and the rest of the world with victory over Lionel Messi's side first up, Saudi Arabia were brought back down to earth by Poland in a 2-0 defeat on Saturday.

Now a point behind Poland and level with Argentina, the Saudis know victory against Mexico will take them into the last 16 for the first time since 1994. However, Mexico themselves have to win to stand any chance of qualification.

Saudi Arabia's shock victory over Argentina means they know another win here will book their spot in the last 16. Yasser Al-Shahrani flew home after undergoing successful jaw surgery, with Herve Renard expected to name a similar starting XI to those that played the Argentina and Poland games.

Mexico cannot afford to name a weakened side for their final group game as they currently sit bottom of the Group. There could be changes up front, however, with neither Hirving Lozano nor Alexis Vega making much of an impact in the defeat to Argentina. However, whether Raul Jimenez will be trusted to lead the line in light of his recent fitness issues remains to be seen. Andres Guardado, who became the sixth men's player to feature at five World Cups, was substituted with an injury and is a doubt for this one.

Denmark and Australia clash in what is a straight shootout for second spot in Group D.

Australia hold the edge know avoiding defeat to Denmark would likely seal their route through to the knockout stages.

But if Tunisia get victory over France, a tall order at the best of times, but always possible in a tournament full of surprises, both teams would need to win. In this scenario a draw for Australia would see them out on goal difference, and for Denmark to advance the margin of victory would be key, as both are currently level on points and goal difference.

Australia aren't likely to tamper with the starting XI that beat Tunisia. Mitchell Duke scored the winner with an excellent header and the Socceroos will continue to whip balls into the middle for their Fagiano Okayama striker to attack. Familiar faces like Mathew Ryan, Harry Souttar and Aaron Mooy are also expected to retain their spots as Australia target qualification.

Denmark have taken just one point from their first two games, and know anything less than a win here will result in elimination. They need more firepower up front, scoring only once through Andreas Christensen through a set piece. Andreas Cornelius has been poor so far and a more aggressive approach utilising both Martin Braithwaite and Kasper Dolberg instead may yield more success. Thomas Delaney is out for the remainder of the tournament with a knee injury.
      ------------------------------------------------
France go into their final Group D game knowing qualification for the last 16 of the World Cup is already guaranteed.

Wins over Australia and Denmark have Les Bleus sitting pretty at the top of the group. They know if they avoid defeat here, they will finish first.

Things are much dicier for Tunisia. The north Africans have to win to stay alive in the tournament and will get second if the match between Australia and Denmark ends in a draw.

Tunisia, with victory needed here, may turn to old Premier League favourite Wahbi Khazri to spice things up in attack. The former Sunderland attacker is yet to start a game in attack, with Naim Sliti and Youssef Msakni preferred in the forward spots behind striker Issam Jebali, but may get the opportunity here.

France with qualification already assured, may take this opportunity to give minutes to a few players yet to see action. That could mean rests for the likes of Raphael Varane - only just back from injury - and Olivier Giroud. It'll be tough to convince Kylian Mbappe to have a rest, though - the Paris Saint-Germain forward already has three goals this tournament.

Australia reached the knockout stage of the World Cup for the first time in 16 years after shocking Denmark.

The Danes, needing victory to progress, dominated possession but were caught out on the break when Australia scored the winner on the hour mark.

Denmark lost the ball in the Australian box and Mathew Leckie finished a brilliant counter attack with a low shot past Kasper Schmeichel.

Australia finish in second place in Group D on six points, only behind world champions France on goal difference.

Denmark meanwhile exit Qatar 2022 with just one point from three games, sitting bottom of the group.

France had a goal ruled out by VAR for offside in the final minute of stoppage-time as Tunisia held on to register a shock victory, but failed to qualify for the last 16 of the World Cup.

France, who were much-changed from their win over Denmark having already qualified as group winners, lacked quality in a disappointing performance.

Tunisia captain Khazi produced the moment fans had been waiting for - a goal at this World Cup - when he drove to the edge of the box and coolly rolled it into the bottom right corner.

Substitute Antoine Griezmann volleyed in a dramatic equaliser at the Education City Stadium but the VAR decision meant Tunisia captain Wahbi Khazi's brilliant first-half goal proved to be the winner.

However, with Australia recording a 1-0 victory over Denmark in the other match in Group D, Tunisia's hopes of progressing had been dashed before Griezmann's goal was ruled out.

France are through to the last 16 as group winners having already secured qualification with victory over Denmark in the last game.

      Mac Allister (46'minutes),
      Álvarez (67'minutes)

Argentina completed the turnaround from the shock opening World Cup loss to Saudi Arabia by qualifying for the last 16 in impressive style against Poland - who went through on goal difference having finished level on points with Mexico.

Argentina ran out comfortable winners with second-half goals from Brighton's Alexis Mac Allister and Manchester City striker Julian Alvarez but the game still held real drama and jeopardy in the closing stages as Poland knew another goal conceded, or another goal for Mexico against the Saudis, would send them out on goal difference.

Argentina dominated throughout but had to wait until after the break to make the breakthrough after Messi saw a first-half penalty saved by Poland keeper Wojciech Szczesny after the pair had collided in an aerial challenge, a harsh award after a video assistant referee consultation.

Mac Allister gave Argentina the lead they deserved when he swept home Nahuel Molina's cross a minute after the break and Alvarez sealed victory with a fine finish into the top corner in the 67th minute.

Poland survived - and were set to progress on the Fifa Fair Play rule for having fewer yellow cards than Mexico - until Saudi Arabia pulled one back deep into stoppage time in their 2-1 loss to the Concacaf side.

      Martín (47'minutes),

Mexico defeated Saudi Arabia 2-1 but agonisingly went out of the World Cup on goal difference on a night of incredible drama in Doha.

After a stop-start first half with little rhythm to it, the match burst into life two minutes after the break as Henry Martin reacted quickest to finish Cesar Montes' flick on.

Mexico fans had barely calmed their celebrations before Luis Chavez curled a glorious 30-yard free-kick into the top corner to send their supporters into pandemonium.

They thought they had another but Hirving Lozano's low strike was chalked off for offside and Martin should have had a second but volleyed over from 12 yards out.

It was all Mexico as they pushed for further goals. Chavez nearly struck another stunning free-kick but Mohammed Al Owais palmed it out, then Orbelín Pineda curled narrowly wide.

Mexico thought they had sealed progression when Uriel Antuna stroked in late on, but that too was flagged for offside and they went out in the most excruciating manner.

Costa Rica face four-time champions Germany for their final World Cup group game.

Costa Rica can confirm a last 16 spot with victory but would go through with a point if Spain beat Japan.

Germany have to defeat Costa Rica for any chance of advancing. A win by two or more goals would be enough if Spain avoid defeat. However, if Japan cause another upset, Germany would have to better Spain's goal difference - which took a huge boost from their 7-0 win over Costa Rica.

Costa Rica manager Suarez feared psychological repercussions for his side after the nation's joint-record defeat but only made two changes to the starting XI which lost to Spain. The tweak to a back-three - which was more often a back-five - certainly stymied Japan and may be the approach he takes up against Germany. However, they will have to find a replacement for centre-back Francisco Calvo after he sustained a second booking against Japan.

Germany tournament swung on Flick's second-half substitutions. Niclas Fullkrug scored a venomous equaliser on just his third cap but Leroy Sane's arrival added some much-needed zip to Germany's frontline. On his way back from a knee injury, Sane hasn't been fit enough to start a World Cup game yet - though that could change this Thursday.

Japan face Spain in the final group stage encounter of an eventful World Cup for the Samurai Blue.

Japan sit second in Group E, one point behind Spain - the only unbeaten team in the group after their draw with Germany.

Japan could qualify with a point if Germany fail to defeat Costa Rica by two goals but a win would cement their spot in the last 16.

Spain just need a point to go through. At least two members of the German squad - Antonio Rudiger and David Raum - told their Spanish club-mates to do them a favour and beat Japan but a win would be beneficial for Spain as well, securing first place and a knockout tie against the runners-up of Group F

Japan defenders Hiroki Sakai and Takehiro Tomiyasu sat out Japan's 1-0 defeat to Costa Rica with hamstring issues. Moriaysu made five changes to the starting XI that beat Germany but still switched to a back-three at half-time for the second consecutive match.

Spain have their entire 26-man squad either on the pitch or the bench against Germany on Sunday night. For the second match in a row, Alvaro Morata scored as a substitute, underlining his case for what would be a first-ever World Cup start. After starting the first two matches, Enrique may be tempted to rest the 18-year-old Gavi for a match with less jeopardy and bring in Koke, who replaced the teenager in the second half against Germany.

Canada face Morocco after they fell to a second defeat against a motivated Croatia to confirm their premature exit from the tournament.

Morocco, are very much in the competition after surging past a sleepy Belgium on Sunday. With four points from their first two games, they can be assured of a place in the last 16 if they beat Canada. A draw would be enough for the Atlas Lions if Croatia avoid defeat against Belgium. A Belgian loss would see Morocco advance regardless of their Canadian contest.

Canada's Stephen Eustaquio had been struggling with muscle soreness in the days leading up to the meeting with Croatia. The Porto midfielder was removed during the interval of the 4-1 loss and is a doubt heading into Thursday's game. Without any knockout place at stake, Herdman may be tempted to rotate his roster, giving minutes to those that are yet to feature in Canada's first World Cup in 36 years.

Morocco's Yassine Bounou stood to hear their national anthem but pulled out of the starting XI moments before kick off against Belgium. His manager Walid Regragrui revealed that the goalkeeper "took a whack against Croatia" and was a doubt heading into the contest. Similar fitness concerns loomed over both first-choice fullbacks. Noussair Mazraoui and Achraf Hakimi overcame hip and hamstring issues respectively to start. Even though PSG's Hakimi was taken off with a quarter of the match to play, both are expected to be available for this key clash.
      ------------------------------------------------
Croatia face Belgium in a meeting between two medallists from the 2018 World Cup. Both sides may have reached the semi-finals in Russia but a passage to the round of 16 in Qatar is not certain for either nation heading into the final game of Group F.

Croatia are better placed after victory against Canada took them to four points; a draw would be enough to send them through.

Belgium's position is more precarious in the wake of a limp loss to Morocco. They could theoretically qualify with one more point but only if winless Canada defeat Morocco by four or more goals in the other group game. A win would confirm Belgium's qualification and leave Croatia sweating over Morocco's result.

Croatia's Nikola Vlasic started the opener against Morocco but was removed with a calf problem at half-time. The West Ham loanee recovered to make the bench against Canada but his replacement, Marko Livaja, delivered a strong argument to retain his starting berth with a crisply struck goal. The arrival of a traditional striker shifted Andrej Kramaric to the right wing, where he scored twice on Sunday afternoon.

Belgium's Romelu Lukaku was deemed fit enough to come on for the final ten minutes of a surprise defeat to Morocco. The Inter striker hasn't started a match for club or country since August and may still be short of the fitness required to lead the line. However, with another four days to continue his recovery, Lukaku could make a longer cameo at least. Amadou Onana will play no part after collecting a second, suspension-inducing booking against the Atlas Lions.

    • Croatia 0 Belgium 0

Belgium were knocked out of the World Cup at the group stage as Croatia progressed at their expense with a goalless draw in Qatar.

Roberto Martinez's side, who finished third in Russia four years ago and are ranked second in the world, have had a disappointing tournament with just one win in three matches.

They put in another lacklustre display against Croatia despite knowing a win was necessary to progress to the last 16.

Substitute Romelu Lukaku had numerous chances in the second half but failed to convert any.

Lukaku, still returning to full fitness following injury, poked an effort wide and then reacted too late when the ball hit him in front of goal in stoppage time.

Croatia, finalists in 2018, got the point they needed to progress from Group F as runners-up, and will face the winners of Group E - which is currently Spain - in the last 16.

      Aguerd (40'minutes og)

      Ziyech (4'minutes),
      En-Nesyri (23'minutes)

Morocco edged past Canada to top Group F and reach the World Cup knockout stage for the first time in 36 years.

Morocco went ahead after just four minutes courtesy of a goalkeeping howler from Milan Borjan.

The Canada keeper sprinted out of his goal but passed the ball straight to Ziyech, who lofted a cool finish into an open net from 30 yards.

The north African side doubled their advantage through Youssef En-Nesyri's well-taken goal as he controlled Achraf Hakimi's superb pass before firing in.

But sloppy defending gave Canada a route back into the game when West Ham's Nayef Aguerd stuck a boot out to divert the ball into his own net - the 100th goal scored at this World Cup.

Knowing if they avoided defeat they would go through, Morocco were happy to sit back and soak up pressure in the second period.

But Atiba Hutchinson came close with a header that rattled the crossbar and dropped down onto the line as Canada's campaign ended without a point.

The Atlas Lions, whose previous trip to the last 16 came in 1986, finished top of the group. A tough test awaits in the next round against the team that finishes second in Group E, which could potentially be Spain or Germany.

Germany crashed out of the World Cup on a remarkable night of drama despite victory over Costa Rica at Al Bayt Stadium.

Germany needed victory to give themselves any chance of reaching the last 16, but it was to no avail.

Germany were in complete control and led through Serge Gnabry's 10th-minute header only for Costa Rica to turn the match on its head to raise the remarkable possibility of Spain also going out.

Yeltsin Tejeda equalised after Germany keeper Manuel Neuer pushed out Kendall Waston's header in the 58th minute, before Juan Pablo Vargas bundled in a second 12 minutes later. At that stage, they were going through with Japan.

It would have capped one of the most astonishing nights in World Cup history, but Germany substitute Kai Havertz restored a measure of normality to proceedings with two clinical finishes. Niclas Fullkrug's last-minute effort gave Flick's side a win that was no consolation as they failed to get out of the group stage for the second successive World Cup.

      Doan (48'minutes),
      Tanaka (51'minutes)

      Morata (11'minutes)

Japan staged another extraordinary World Cup comeback to reach the last 16, overcoming a stunned Spain side who were fortunate to join them in the knockout stage.

In a tournament that has been full of shocks, this was perhaps the most dramatic night so far, with Spain left relying on the result of Germany's game with Costa Rica for them to progress

All four teams had started the evening with a chance of progressing but with Spain needing only a draw to qualify, they were not expected to need any favours from elsewhere.

La Roja were cruising at the break after Alvaro Morata headed home Cesar Azpilicueta's cross from close range, but Japan would quickly turn the game - and the whole of Group E - on its head.

The Samurai Blue sent on substitutes Ritsu Doan and Kaoru Mitoma at half-time and within six minutes of the restart they had both made a huge impact.

Doan equalised with a fierce shot from the edge of the area and, only 142 seconds later, Mitomo retrieved Doan's low cross and found Ao Tanaka to bundle home from close range

The goal was initially ruled out by the assistant referee who signalled Doan's cross had gone out of play, but the Video Assistant Referee ruled Mitomo had reached it in time.

Things got even worse for Spain when Costa Rica took a surprise lead over Germany moments later, because at that stage they were heading out.

The big screens at Khalifa International Stadium showed the updated group table, to the disbelief of the Spain supporters, and pretty much everyone else here too.

Luis Enrique's side were in big trouble, and were showing few signs of knowing how to rescue themselves, with only Germany's late rally sending La Roja through as group runners-up on goal difference.

Back-to-back victories for Brazil to start their 2022 World Cup campaign means their place in the round of 16 has already been secured. The pre-tournament favourites have dazzled in spells and impressively denied both Serbia and Switzerland from testing Alisson between the sticks. Barring a mini-miracle on Matchday 3, Tite's men will advance into the last 16 as group winners.

Cameroon need to upset the odds if they're to have any chance of qualifying from Group G. Their Vincent Aboukakar-inspired fightback against Serbia on Matchday 2 rescued a point and kept them in the tournament, but they need plenty to go their way in the final round of fixtures for them to progress.

Cameroon goalkeeper Andre Onana is the major team news. The Inter shot-stopper was removed from the squad ahead of the 3-3 draw with Serbia and will not play any further role in Cameroon's campaign. Veteran striker Aboubakar has surely played his way into the starting XI for this one after he scored and assisted off the bench in the last game

Brazil will be without Neymar and Danilo for their final group game, with the pragmatic boss poised to make a few changes to the side that beat Switzerland 1-0. Alex Telles could come in for Alex Sandro at left-back, while it's unlikely that both Fred and Lucas Paqueta will start in midfield. Richarlison could be rested up top with Gabriel Jesus potentially coming in, while Rodrygo could make his first start of the tournament down the right.
      ------------------------------------------------
Switzerland and Serbia meet in their final group game, with both still in with a shout of making the knockout stages.

The Swiss have the greater chance, and they know a draw will almost certainly be good enough should Cameroon not spring a major surprise against Brazil.

Serbia have much less room for manoeuvre, requiring a win, and that should make for a very fiery affair.

Serbia face an anxious wait over key defender Strahinja Pavlovic ahead of the crucial clash. The centre-back was forced to come off in the 3-3 draw against Cameroon with an injury but is hopeful he can recover in time. If he fails to make it, Stefan Mitrovic is expected to deputise.

Switzerland may recall the experienced Xherdan Shaqiri for the game against Serbia with Fabian Rieder most likely to drop out. They do not have any major fitness doubts going into the match so will almost certainly go with their tried and trusted formula.

      Uruguay ____0_1_1_-2___1

Ghana and Uruguay face off in the hope of sealing a spot in the knockout stages of the World Cup.

Portugal have already qualified from Group H but both of these sides have the chance to join them. A victory would guarantee a spot in the next round for Ghana, while a draw would be enough if Portugal avoid defeat against South Korea.

As for Uruguay, they need a victory of their own to advance, but South Korea need to drop points as well.

Ghana Left-back Gideon Mensah was forced off late on in the victory over South Korea but later confirmed he was just dealing with cramp, suggesting he should be fit enough to feature once again.

Uruguay's centre-back Ronald Araujo has still not played yet in the tournament and we might not see him at all after the Barcelona man suffered a relapse to the injury which nearly ruled him out of the competition in the first place. Araujo isn't expected back until the knockout stages, but given Uruguay's struggles so far, he might not get the chance to return.

Portugal are already through to the next round of the World Cup and need just a point against South Korea to guarantee they finish top of Group H. With two wins from two, things have gone pretty well for Portugal and they'll fancy their chances against a South Korea side who have struggled at both ends of the field this winter.

South Korea need a win here to have any hopes of qualifying, but they also need Ghana to drop points. They could find themselves in a goal difference battle against either Ghana or Uruguay, so the goals need to flow.

South Korea main absentee for this game will be manager and former Portugal international player Paulo Bento, who was sent off after the final whistle against Ghana for protesting referee Anthony Taylor's decision to blow the whistle.

Portugal have already qualified so can afford to ease up a bit and rest a number of their key starters, safe in the knowledge that the backup brigade should still be good enough to get the job done here. The main injury concern is at left-back, where Nuno Mendes picked up a problem in the first half against Uruguay. He was in tears as he limped off, and even if he miraculously recovers in time, he's unlikely to be risked anyway. Danilo Pereira and Otavio are both unavailable.

    • South Korea 2 Portugal 1

      Kim Young-Gwon (27'minutes),
      Hwang Hee-Chan (90'+1minutes)

      Ricardo Horta (5'minutes)

Hwang Hee-chan gave South Korea a sensational injury-time victory over Portugal that meant they beat Uruguay to a last-16 place on goals scored.

Any hope of a happy ending for South Korea had seemed unlikely when they fell behind after only five minutes, with Portugal scoring with their first meaningful attack.

Diogo Dalot surged into the box from the right and from his cutback, Ricardo Horta was in the right place to sweep a first-time shot past Kim Seung-gyu and mark his World Cup debut with a goal.

An equaliser was not long in coming, first Kim Jin-su turned home the rebound after Diogo Costa saved Cho Gue-sung's flicked header. But the celebrations were cut short by a flag for offside. Then followed a corner which wasn't cleared and the ball hit Cristiano Ronaldo's back and rolled into the path of Kim Young-gwon, who could hardly miss from close range.

At the start of stoppage time, it seemed South Korea were heading out, when Hwang ran onto Son Heung-min's pass in the 91st minute to round off a rapid break and start wild celebrations from his side's fans in the stands.

On the pitch and in the stands, players and supporters watched the final moments of Uruguay's game with Ghana, knowing another goal for the South American side would send them out.

When that 2-0 win was confirmed, a huge roar went around Education City Stadium, and South Korea were able to start the party for real.

    • Ghana 0 Uruguay 2

      de Arrascaeta (26'minutes, 32'minutes)

Uruguay beat Ghana but went out of the World Cup on goals scored as they finished third behind South Korea in Group H, despite Luiz Suarez's heroics.

The Uruguay striker played a major role in both of Uruguay's goals and the 35-year-old was in tears after the final whistle, following what may have been his last international.

Both goals were scored by Giorgio de Arrascaeta, the first a close-range header, the second a sublime volley.

In Group H's other game, South Korea's 2-1 victory over group winners Portugal was enough to take them through in second place.

Uruguay and South Korea both ended with a zero goal difference, but the side from Asia netted a total of four goals in their three games, with the South American team scoring just the two they managed against Ghana.
