Well actually, the fetus doesn't breathe air. I could be wrong (haven't looked it up in a while), but I recall the fetus making breathing motions in the womb to suck in the liquid around it (or something along those lines).
The fetus(or child) does not technically breathe by itself, however oxygen(air) is transferred through the mothers blood stream. ;):cool:
