Do you believe in God?

I try not to make a habit of believing something that is pure speculation. Whether or not god exists in unknowable...(I'm currently studying philosophy at Uni, so I'll give you a philosophical answer)
There are three types of thing epistemologically (ways of knowing), that which is true out of nessesity of definition of the concept or by pure logic or deduction. Things that might be the case and can only be shown to be likely or not by empirical reasoning, which I tread not near and leave in the capable hands of scientists who know what they are talking about. & Finally there are things that are neither observable, or nessesarily true, which I call unknowables. Stuff like, "is there a reality that is not dependant on observation" for example is an unknowable thing, because it is not nessesarily one or the other, and the whole point is not to observe.
Something like god is far from observable and measurable, and the universe does not nessesarily implode if it doesn't exist because as the big bang theory, and a few others like quantumn theory clearly shows, a god is not actually nessesary to create the universe, this does not mean god doesn't exist of course, but it does throw the question of god's existence into the unknowable catagory.
This same catagory is full of things that have no knowable impact on one's life. If something has no knowable impact on my life, isn't justified by evidence, and isn't nessesarily true, I simply abstain from any belief in it what so ever as that would not be reason but guess work. I don't make a habit of guessing, I'm a philosopher, I reason...hence I don't believe in god.
But believe what you will I don't care, just don't force it down my throat, call me immoral for not believing it, use it as an excuse to promote hatred, racism and violence, or generally be a complete dick about it. -

Depends on what kind of god ... you could just add that to the poll ... "it depends"
Same here.
My answer to the poll, however, is I do and I don't, really....see me....feel me...touch me....heal me....

Then you are in the wrong board. -
No, and you need to stop making your every post about religion or insulting people.Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt. - Abraham Lincoln

i do not believe in god, and i think that it should be common sense that he isnt real.
religion is also the root of all evil. -
Doesn't make sense that he does.
Just something humans made up...

We burned witches at the stake up until 300 years ago because we thought they were crazy and had magical powers. Now we don't believe in magic anymore, yet we still have faith in God don't we? God uses magic and we love him... What the fuck?
I can't make this into a formal post right now, but I will soon, I'm too tired...

yesEven though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for You are with me; Surely goodness and lovingkindness will follow me all the days of my life, And I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

Problem is how do people know what is and what is not to be taken literally. I can probbaly think that they actually did believe that earth was created in a week because of the Sabbath day. Another thing is that if the bible is the word of God or inspired by the Holy Spirit etc... Thats means that you have to take the Bible literally as it is God's word.
Like any other book, to each is their own. Specific things, such as murder, rape, etc. are rather black and white in that they're wrong. Other, potentially less important "laws" may have a gray area. Perhaps they're supposed to be, so individual people can take them in their own way. If the book is the word of God, then it needs to be taken literally? Really? You told you that?[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC] -
No.

Bible = fake
Bible = something people wrote to keep good in the world

For me; no.
I'm not going to go into detail of what I believe in, but 'God' and 'higher being' is different for me, very much so.
So no, I do not believe in 'God'.R.I.P Captain Jack Sparrow, 13/3/09
