I'm 16 and my friend is 17, can we see a R rated movie together?

I'm a 16 year old male and my friend is a 17 year old female, we both live in the United States of America, and so we have to abide by the rulings of the MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America), can we go together to see Zombieland (which is rated R) in theaters without any adults? I believe the law says that if you are 17 or older or are with someone 17 or older you can. So since she is 17, could we still go together (without adults)? Also, would we need any ID (last week I saw Zombieland with my uncle, and they didn't ask us for ID to verify our ages)?

I don't think someone would need ID to verify that your uncle is over the age of 17.

Obviously, but they are supposed to do it anyway (protocol), but they didn't.

Just go to the damn counter, go to a teenager working there are buy the ticket. Im betting if your with the girl and you go to a guy, he wont ask. im 15 and ive gotten into a few R rated movies. It all depends on the person behind the counter, some will ask, others wont care

If you're lucky, you can get in. Some won't check how old you are, but there are others who are strictly by the rules.

I don't see people showing their ID's to cinemas just to be able to watch a film. I mean, my classmates watch Final Destination, and they are all fourteen (they even look younger). Anyway, if you look 18, I think you'll be allowed.

They don't card you here till after you've purchased your ticket. It's such a scam.

where I am they only card the person buying the tickets, so I guess it depends on your local movie theater

Im just going to say what most of the people here are saying; just go and buy the ticket yourself. Most likely they wont really care, but like one of the people here said... It depends whos behind the counter. Some will care, others will not.
