Perhaps you meant you don't get why atheists get married, right? (The atheists that do get married.).
So just because someone doesn't believe in God, they can't fall in love?

Other way around - what has marriage got to do with religion.
Not quite sure what these statements have to do with anyting in the thread?

Right, that's what I asked.
If the age of the Earth is ~6,000 years, then yes, religion invented marriage.
If the age of the Earth is ~4.56 billion years, then marriage pre-dates religion.
Regardless, my point with the "don't you really mean why do atheists get married" counter-argument, is, because, religious people get married to avoid the sin of pre-marital sex... so they don't go to Hell when they die.
You seem to be contradicting yourself here...first you say its not ok for atheists to get married, now its ok? Im confused here. Pre-marital sex is not the only reason religious people get married, so your argument here is invalid.
"Marriage" existed before modern religion, although it was probably in a different form than what we recognize it as today. The idea that religion and marriage are mutually exclusive is just plain ignorant.
What I should have said was...Nothing!
