Wooow I think you missed a huge part in this, PERSONALITY IS KEY!!! Why making a fuss about being dumped by a guy who isn't cute enough? Why didn't you just think that you were dumped by a guy who is different? It seems as if you guys didn't have a lot to talk about, means you don't share the same interest. This may be the reason, another reason is that guys don't like girls who are too clingy, let the boys do the first move.

Personally I don't agree with the confidence thing. Popular means being loved by a lot of people, and you don't need confidence to be loved. Like the most popular girl, in my opinion, doesn't got a lot of confidence and complains about how much she hates her life and that she thinks she is ugly, but everybody loves her, including me! It's more about how you treat other people, how funny, loving and caring you are.

How did you react when you found out that she didn't really like you? I think, she's the one who wants to appologize for lying... Talk to her about it, tell her that you'll try to ignore your feelings for her and just become how you used to be before. I can imagine that it will be a bit awkward after expriencing this, but try to make an effort! Be yourself, talk to her normally as you used to before and eventually you'll get back to your old friendship I'm sure!
