Linux is a million times better (and faster) under-the-hood than windows and people who use it don't typically need advanced, professional programs. But for those who do, windows works well enough. Just be sure not to run more than two programs at once (unless you have a 400 ghz CPU with 20 cores), because in my experience it will take you a year to get anything done.
