A lot of people in the USA are circumcised but a lot of people in other countries are too for religious reasons or hygiene etc it’s not just the USA

Everyone in my class is circumcised. I do not know about the other grades/classes. Further anyone I have ever seen in local pools and beach changing room are also cut. I have seen an uncircumcised boy at another locker room when we were traveling. We go to a Catholic school so religion has nothing to do with it in our school.

Circumcision is also an Islam thing. And they make up a significant part of the world's population.

Being uncircumcised is obviously how we are born and, in much of the world, we stay that way including most of Europe. In some places boys are circumcised for religious reasons so it is common in the Jews and in Muslim countries.

As far as I know America is the only place where circumcision is practiced without a religious obligation when there isn't either a pressing medical need. Even in America it is not as common as it was with some groups less likely to be circumcised than others.

I don't believe so. For many, many years it was done for health reasons, real and imagined. Some thought circumcising a boy would deter him from masturbating. And another reason was it was thought keeping the foreskin led to penile cancer. All my circumcised friends are that way because their fathers are, from what they've told me. My dad is intact and that's why my brother and I are too. Of course there are religious reasons, both the Jewish and Islamic faiths proscribe circumcision.

These days we have evidence-based medicine where doctors should be prescribing treatments that have been proven to work but back in the 1800s there was all kinds of quackery going on, i.e. doctors treating patients based on their own personal theories and that is the ones that were at least trying to help.

People in mental institutions were observed masturbating and doing so more often that people on the outside, even if those on the outside would admit to it. So, clearly, said the medics of the day, it must be a manifestation of a deranged mind and the more deranged the mind, the more the patient masturbates.

Except, of course, the only real affect of the mental illness was that the patient had not learned to make it a private habit. As for the frequency, what else would one do in a mental institution? The poor patients were bored and, without access to tools, supplies etc. to do other things, they turned to the one toy that no-one could take away.

From what I understand most americans are circumsized but other western countries dont do it (Canada, Mexico, Brazil, nearly all Europe, India, China, Japan)

Most everyone I know is cut here. I asked my dad once why they had me and my bro cut and he said it was common practice. I wonder if he even thought about it much.

Hmm I don't know the circumcision status of that many guys, but of the few I know, more are cut but not all. Being uncut is more common among Latinos (which a lot of people I know are). I'm also uncut. I don't know why. Just a choice my parents made.
