Have to be shirtless in front of girls for PE swimming

In a couple of weeks we're starting swimming in PE lessons and I'm worried about having to take my shirt off because the lesson is mixed girls and boys. I only moved to the school this year so I'm not used to this. Basically I'm worried because I'm very pale and a bit skinny and I have some chest hair which the other boys in my class don't have so I'm worried I'll stand out. The PE kit rules are strict boys can only wear swim shorts, no swim shirts or anything else are allowed. Girls have to wear one-piece costumes and are allowed shorts over the top if they want. It seems a bit sexist we aren't allowed to cover up as much as them.

Will the girls be looking at our bodies and judging us? or will they just ignore us so I'm worrying about nothing?

You are worrying for nothing. Most of you will be a bit pale and skinny
If chest hairs are a problem shave them.

Realistically, some girls might be checking you guys out. But truth there’s no point worrying because most will just be worrying about themselves.

Girls have to deal with guys looking at them all the time, so everyone will feel uncomfortable.

And I don’t think there’s any sexism here as girls and guys have different bodies.

Hopefully you get used to it pretty quickly and it is no longer an issue.

but it’s not though, because guys don’t need to wear shirts while swimming. Maybe the reason the girls are allowed to cover up more because the teacher recognises they will be uncomfortable with how often girls are over sexualised by guys.

Don't worry about it. People are not going to be staring at you (and if they are, it just means you have something worth looking at). I know back when I was in school the way things tended to go was that the guys who did not have chest hair were actually jealous of the guys who did have chest hair.

After a few classes it will become normal most likely, so take a deep breath and just try and enjoy the class

at that age we are too busy being self conscious and worried about others judging us to judge others. Just remember that everyone feels the way you do more or less, even those we envy.

compaired to the rules we had they don't sound that strict :lol:

we had to wear a black or dark blue one piece (no alternative). And boys similar dark colour (not sure what they're called, but like tight shorts)

Though our lessons at high school were always separate for boys and girls. When your in the water everyone is to busy swimming (or not drowning :lol:

) to notice

Girls will probably be looking at guys bodies but probably not judging

Kara and Penelope are right. Most girls will be too self conscious to worry about looking at other guys. And the few girls who will be looking will be looking at the ones they already like anyway. What they actually see or don't see won't affect them. They may be disappointed some football players aren't as buff as they assumed, but I doubt girls will be shocked that non athletic teen boys aren't very muscular or tan in April.

Start loving your own body as it is. You may not realise it but other people certainly like your body the way it is. And I'm sure it's not as bad, try to worry less about these things.
