I have to write an essay on Nineteen Eighty-Four. The question is:

“G. Woodcock suggests about heroism: The important thing is to have understood the truth about one’s situation and to have uttered the cry of rebellion that confirms one’s humanity. Provide an analysis of Winston using this quote as a reference where you discuss his humanity.”

The thesis I've come up with looks like:

“The futile struggle of the protagonist, Winston, against the omnipresent Party and his eventual submission to its dehumanizing power demonstrates that heroism and humanity are a matter of action as opposed to merely an internal state of being because although rebellious instincts do arise in Winston’s mind, he fails to ever realize these thoughts in any effective action due to the omnipresent power of the dehumanizing Party.”

I think that my teacher wants more of a general thesis, without mentioning Winston and the Party. Any suggestions on how to do that? Also, any suggestions to the thesis as a whole?

      Much thanks.
