Recently, the subject of polygamy has intrigued me. I picked up a book in my school's library during my spare called Sister Wife. It's a good book, worth a read if you're interested in the subject. I've also perused the internet for some articles, hoping to know more about polygamy, specifically Mormon polygamy, where women have no choice, they either marry a man twice their age, or leave the compound.
It seems that the leaders of these compounds and the heads of these churches skirt around the laws by marrying off the girls just after they are legal to be married, and they aren't legal marriages. They are 'spiritual marriages'.
I feel that those kinds of 'marriages' are wrong. I feel that if a woman and man know what they are getting into, and the woman consents, then it should be allowed. These compound things, though, frighten me and seriously breach on women's rights.
What do you think?
