Can spending $200+ on a sound card really be justified? Are you really going to hear the difference? I guess you're an audiophile. Any modern motherboard has 7.1 or 8.1 channel audio integrated, and it sounds just fine. I play games, listen to music and watch movies and they all sound great. No add-in card used.
I don't know. I would just take the money and invest it in other areas of the computer where you will see better improvements of performance, such as CPU or RAM. Or even purchase a larger hard drive. Just something where you won't see diminishing returns.

What you also need is a pair of immense headphones, or even better some nice quality speakers (celestions or something) before you're even going to begin to hear the difference.
