I do at least half an hour a day of cycling. Just wondering whether this will help me lose weight and what else will I gain from it?

Cycling mainly strengthens your leg muscles, but it's also good cardiovascular exercise, and it also tones your buttocks! :p

It all depends on how intense that half hour is.
If you're gliding along on your bike in the lowest gear, you won't get any more of workout than going for a walk.
If that half hour is a lot more fast and intense, with uphill sections, and you feel exhusted afterwards, they you're getting the benefit of HI CV exercise plus a great workout for your calves, hams and quads.. basically the entire leg.
Ever seen a pro-cyclist's legs? He/she didn't get such great definition by doing squats and leg extentions. It's from all that intense biking. Tom Platz who is said to have the best legs ever in the world of bodybuilding, used to cycle 20 miles after his leg workout because he knew the importance of working your legs in this way.
The reason is, your legs can carry you hundreds of miles and they can lift mind-bending weight.. they're technically the strongest muscles in the body, and not only that they have amazing endurance. For instance, I normally do 3 sets of 12 squats with 400 pounds, which requires a lot of concentration and effort to do, but I know that even after doing this and my other leg exercises, my legs can still walk me around and cycle me home.. so I always add some intense cycling at the end to make sure I fatigue my legs in every way so that they grow. As opposed to my biceps, which after doing 12 sets of exercising, they're too week to lift anything for days![CENTER][CENTER]Taken: Shibuya, Toto-Super Space.

cyclying is really gud for health ...speciaaly for ur legs...n for those whom was to lose their weight....except all dis cycling makes ur legs strong n make u fit...so u shuld do cyclin everyday around half or 1 hour a day...Get rid of Erythrophobia, Facial Blushing with help of Blusher's Manual ,theblushersmanual.com .

heres my tip for getting the most out of cycling, if you only have half an hour to cycle, find the steepest hill nearby, cycle to it, then cycle up it as hard and fast as you can, roll down to recover, then blitz back up it. do that untill you cant anymore then go home.

Cycling is great for a losing weight, but remember to push yourself as you get stronger. you do not want to plateau too quickly.

I have a stationary bike. The resistence settings go from 1-8.
3 is the hardest I've gotten for 30 minutes
